Think twice before using your new iPad on a 4G or LTE Network

Thanks to CNET, we have now an interesting report about how operating on 4G or LTE networks could influence your data and wallet consumption. While Apple seems to avoid showing any piece of information that could help making this kind of predictions, Verizon and AT&T offer data calculators that give some figures about data usage.

The predictions can’t be very accurate because the devices handle data differently, so the results from data calculators are guidelines and the real consumption of data may vary. But customers will be somehow aware about what to expect from data plans and could choose the one that better suit their needs.

According to CNET findings using these calculators, it is highly recommended that you avoid using 4G LTE because the new iPad’s resolution doesn’t limit the bandwidth for displaying HD video. Otherwise, you may choose to spend $50 a month for 5GB data plan, just to watch a single HD streaming movie on your iPad through 4G.

You might think to use 4G LTE iPad just on Wi-fi home networks or hot-spots. But, I guess this was not the intended purpose and doesn’t worth after all.

I hope this article will help you taking the best decision.

Next generation iPad rumored to be featured with A5X, not A6 processor

The rumor that Apple won’t use a quad-core processor for the next iPad took birth earlier, and we commented on the subject in a previous article. Now, a new picture appeared, showing the logic board for next-generation iPad has a chip labeled “A5X” rather than the “A6” processor, empowering our latest believes. The board also shows that the chip was manufactured in November 2011 and has a 16 GB flash memory from Hynix.

If this information is real, it could suggest that the next iPad’s processor is a more powerful and faster version for the existing A5 CPU on iPad 2 and iPhone 4S.

Apple is clearly continuing the strategy of using its own custom chips, as long possible, but it is still unpredictable what type of processor will be featured on next-gen iPad.

They could release a third-generation iPad with A5X processor or an “iPad 2S” with A5X CPU, arranging a later launch for A6 quad-cored processor iPad 3. There are also rumors that Apple might launch two versions of iPad in the same time, one dual-core, the other quad-core and with different capabilities also.

Other recent leaks and rumors we also talked about, announce the next-gen of iPad will support 4G LTE , NFC mobile payments system , higher resolution display and upgraded camera.

There are only few days until all these rumors are believed to be officially validated or dismissed by Apple itself, so it just remains little time to be patient.

iPad outsells Samsung Galaxy Tab in Korea but still has problems in China

According to Korea Herald, Apple has won the 2011 tablet race in Korea, surpassing the country’s own Samsung Galaxy Tablet, with sales of 1 million iPads since its debut here – Nov. 30, 2010. About 700,000 units were sold last year alone, dominating and grabbing a slice of 70-80% market share, despite the fact that Korea is the home for two of the largest Android tablet supporters, Samsung and LG. But in the smartphones case, things are completely different, with Samsung clearly ruling the market.

In China, Apple’s iPad doesn’t have the same success, due to local Proview Technology which holds the brand name and trademark rights in the country. As a result of the lawsuit between these two companies, Proview has asked authorities to retreat iPads from Chinese stores. Apple either has to pay 1.6 bilion US$, or rename iPad otherwise in China. So, there are still unsolved problems, but China is an important market for Apple and they’ll find a way.

At the moment, Apple’s iPad is the most desired tablet in Korea but this battle is far to be over. We are waiting the rumored iPad 3 launch in March, and the Galaxy Tab refresh, believed to be revealed at Mobile World Congress in about two weeks.

2012 it will clearly be an interesting year concerning the tablet ecosystem.

4G LTE iPad 3 might come to Verizon and AT&T

According to yesterday rumors posted on The Wall Street Journal and other tech news websites, the next generation of iPad most likely will support 4G LTE.

Verizon Communications Inc. and AT&T Inc. will sell a version of the coming iPad that runs on their newest fourth-generation wireless networks, according to people familiar with the matter, as the battle to cash in on big investments in mobile broadband heats up.”

Same source specifies also that, where LTE signal isn’t available, iPad 3 will fall back to a slower network technology such as 3G or EDGE.

This rumor is contrary to previous beliefs and discussions given the battery drain issues with 4G connection, but maybe Apple has already found a way to overcome it. Until now, there is no piece of information whether other carriers besides this two, are ready or have plans to launch LTE iPad as Sprint Nextel Corp., T-Mobile USA and Apple declined to comment this issue.

Don’t forget that the new iPad generation is expected to have an A6 quad-core processor, higher resolution display, upgraded camera, 4G LTE connectivity, and NFC mobile payments system according to multiple rumors we also commented in a previous article.

While it’s unclear which one of these rumors are true, we have only three weeks to expect until the expected Apple official announcement date of March 7.

Although the iPad 3 is soon to be released, a regional retailer from the U.S has got down with $ 70 the price of the 16GB, Wi-Fi, dual-core A5 chip, namely iPad 2.

The offer was announced for the week of February 12-18 and is said to last until they run out of supplies. On Meijer’s website there is also listed that the offer of $ 429 is valid only in stores.

The iPad 2 responds to features like:

  • Apple iPad 2 with Wi-Fi – 16GB
  • 9.7″ LED-backlit display with IPS technology
  • Dual-core A5 chip

This is one of the biggest discounts that the device encountered, Apple offering between $ 41 and $ 61 off during Black Friday promotion. The adjustment is seen as an attempt to clear the stock and make room for the third-generation of iPads.

The iPad 2 is not the only product from Meijer that comes with discount, one can also get hands on the Smart Cover iPad 2 accessory for $ 35, saving $ 5 and a iTunes gift card for $ 15 if buying an 8GB iPod touch.

The new iPad will not integrate a quad-core processor

Despite the fact that Apple keeps the cards close to its chest, photos with a sample of the new iPad have invaded the media.  Pictures highlight the external panel of the device and also magnets for the iPad 3 Smart Cover.

Apple.pro provided the pictures and stated that a stranger came with the pictures. Most probably one of Apple’s employee is behing the facts. Rumors about the new iPad 3 had began quite a long time ago, everybody claiming that it would have big differences as against the previous version.

The latest version is expected to be launched in March, coming with a double-resolution display. After the photos have been analysed, there are doubts whether the gadget will come with quad-core or a dual-core A6 processor. Rumors also argue that the iPad 3 will come with 4G compatibility.

When it comes to Apple nothing is sure until the last minute, so it only remains to wait until March and finally analyse its features.

Vokul, Siri’s new challenger on the market

When the iPhone 4S first appeared on the market everyone was enlightened by its features and stated that they must definitely get their hands on one of those devices. One of its most important features, Siri, surely made the difference, allowing anyone who possessed the latest version to use the iPhone only using the voice.  For not dropping behind previous versions, producers have come with a new feature resembling Siri available for the iPhone 3GS and later, iPod touch 3rd generation and on all iPad models. We’re talking about Vokul that is always on his toe to help the user and it doesn’t need to be activated like Siri, one just has to say the magic words: “Hey Vokul”.

KulTeck, the producers have provided “the first and only 100% handsfree voice control app” especially made for iDevices. It surely comes in handy and it definitely helps users when driving or jogging.Just picture that you’re driving a car with the police in the zone and an urgent call or message must be sent so just call out Vokul and he merely does the job for you.Due to restrictions imposed by iOS, Vokul cannot give users a hand when it comes to reading messages out loud.Without no network connection needed, it can play songs straight from your iTunes library.

Also, for those that like jogging or are simply taking a walk in the park, Vokul can delight them with changing the songs from the media player or take commands like “faster” and “a little slower”.

KulTek has already made known Vokul’s next features and improvements for the next version and it gets even more interesting.

  • Email dictation
  • Bluetooth support (Handsfree Profile)
  • Audio player fixes.vokul currently cannot play encrypted audio tracks or audio tracks that reside on iCloud (via iTunes Match). If you try to play one of these tracks, a lock icon will appear and playback will not start. This issue will be fixed in the next version.
  • iPhone 3GS wakeup phrase fix – if you have a 3GS running iOS 5, you may need to speak up a bit when saying the wakeup phrase (“hey vokul”).This issue will be fixed in the next release.
  • British and Australian English Support (planned)

iPad 3, News/Rumors

Apple is preparing for its next great release since iPhone 4S: iPad 3

Apple anticipates iPad 3 release to be a blast due to the technologies that will be included in the manufacturing of the tablet. According to Bloomberg, the Foxconn Technology Group, Apple’s manufacturing partner had already started the production and in March this year we will find on the market a smarter iPad with a HD retinal display, a faster processor and 4G LTE support.

Though we would have expected the next iPhone to support the latest generation of wireless technology, iPad 3 will be the first to be provided with this concept. The reason is the bigger battery of the tablet that is more able of handling a quad-core chip, a Retina Display Set and LTE Networks. The new display is richer in pixels thus, the images will be reproduced with a greater accuracy and the new processor will boost the speed of the tablet, improving the user experience.

iPad 2Ideas about the iPad 3’s design are not revealed though, but let’s imagine a little bit…can it get thinner than iPad 2, the look and feel can get sleeker and glossier than the actual one? Apple gadgets are each time more attractive; I have no doubt that iPad 3 will go above the present limits.

Apple to launch two tablets in 2012: iPad 3 in March and iPad 4 in October, says a report from DigiTimes

ipad 3, 4

In 2011 Apple introduced the iphone  4s and the iPad 2, but in 2012 the company has biggest plan to dominate the tablet market by launching the iPad 3 in march and the iPad 4 in October , claimed a report from DigiTimes.

The new report also reveals that the new iPad 3 will have a QXGA display with 1,536 x 2,048 pixels, and a better battery with an improved autonomy , although the other hardware specifications won’t amaze anybody.  Personally I look forward to watch my videos on the new iPad 3 with that amazing display and not being afraid that my battery runs out.

The iPad 3 will come with a QXGA (1,536×2,048 pixels) display and longer battery life although its other hardware specifications may not be so amazing as expected, said the sources. But Apple will take the advantage of the iPad 3 launch to slash the price of its iPad 2 to US$399, the sources claimed

Introducing the iPad 3 in March, will probably have an impact on the iPad 2 price, bumped down to $399. The price cut and the launch of the iPad 3 will allow Apple to compete in the same price range with other tablets on the market and also leading the way with the new tablet.

Also DigiTimes reported that Apple is planning to launch a super-enhanced  iPad 4 in October. Killer applications and upgrades for all hardware specifications  will be expected for the new iPad 4, a device that will have to compete against the new Android and Windows based tablets.
